Tilt versus touch: which racing control actually wins
Every mobile racer offers both tilt and touch steering, and everyone has a strong opinion about which is correct. We put a few games through their paces, Neon Drift Circuit among them, to settle it — or at least understand it.
Tilt feels immersive and can be more precise on gentle curves, but it falls apart the moment you need to react fast or hold your phone at an awkward angle on a train. Touch steering is less romantic but far more reliable for the tight, drifty corners that arcade racers love.
Neon Drift Circuit made the case for touch cleanly: its drifting demands quick little corrections, and thumbs on the screen just do that better than wrists in the air. Your mileage will vary with a physics-heavy sim, though.
Our takeaway: try both for at least a few races before you decide, and don't judge a control scheme by your first crash-filled lap. Muscle memory takes a bit.
